<div class="row clearfix">Welcome to Washburn Middle and High School </div><div class="row clearfix"> <div class="column full"><div class="edit"> 		 		Welcome to the Washburn Middle and High School.&nbsp; After teaching in Washburn for eleven years, I was&nbsp;honored to become the&nbsp;high school principal, and then the middle school principal. I&nbsp;am now in&nbsp;my eight year as high school principal and fourth year as the middle school principal. I'm in my nineteenth year with the District, and have enjoyed every year as part of this community.&nbsp;The Washburn School District’s mission is “to enable students to enter the global society with the knowledge, skills, habits, and attitudes required to be contributing citizens.” I will work my hardest to make sure when your child leaves our school they have gained the skills needed to meet the goals of our mission statement. The community of Washburn is nestled in the heart of the Chequamegon Bay and overlooking the waters of Lake Superior.&nbsp; Washburn has an exceptional combination of culture, nature, and sense of community. Washburn is known for its four seasons of recreational opportunities that please sports and outdoors enthusiasts and those who simply appreciate nature's beauty.&nbsp; I welcome you to come and visit Washburn to see all that it has to offer. At Washburn Middle and High School, we have a curriculum that is innovative and rigorous. Washburn offers a multiple-platform technological curriculum and our students have the latest technology available to them, to aide in the learning process.&nbsp; Our superior staff and small class sizes allow us to meet the needs of each and every student.&nbsp; In 2016, Washburn students scored well above the state average on the ACT, with a composite score of 24.8 compared to the State composite score of 20.5.&nbsp; The post-high school placement for the class of 2016 is 88% four year university/college and two year college.&nbsp; In 2015, Washburn High School&nbsp;received a National Blue Ribbon Award&nbsp;for Educational Excellence.&nbsp; In 2017 we received&nbsp;National Green Ribbon Award. We have a lot of exciting&nbsp;things&nbsp;happening in the Washburn Middle and High School.&nbsp; Right off one of our science classrooms we have an aquaponics lab, as well as a high tunnel and green space, powered by solar.&nbsp; These additions will allow students a new hands-on experience when applying the curriculum.&nbsp; When the lab and high tunnel are running to full capacity they will be able to produce about 85-90% of fresh greens for our school’s outstanding food service program.&nbsp; Washburn is taking Green and Healthy to a whole new level! Washburn Middle and High School also has a wide variety of extra-curricular activities to help students become well-rounded individuals.&nbsp; Our extra-curriculars are an extension of the lessons taught in the classroom and will help prepare students for whatever life has in store for them.&nbsp; Washburn offers football, hockey (HS only), wrestling, basketball, cross country, baseball, softball, volleyball, downhill skiing,&nbsp;nordic skiing, soccer (HS only) and track &amp; field. Co-curricular activities include International Club, Native American Club, National Honor Society (HS only), Quiz Bowl (HS only), Pep and Jazz Band (HS only), Show Choir (Fire and Ice HS, Illumination MS), Student Government, Visual Arts Classic, Clay Target League, GSA, and Yearbook (HS only).&nbsp; Washburn Middle and High School has a warm and inviting learning environment. Our staff truly cares about the education and well-being of each student that attends Washburn.&nbsp; Washburn creates a culture that is found in very few schools today.&nbsp; Washburn Middle and High School is the type of school every student should have a chance to attend, and I am proud to be your middle and high school principal.&nbsp; Heidi M.M.
